The Boston Celtics came to being on June 6, 1946. On that day 11 men who owned a hokey franchise or a large stadium met together to form a new basketball league.

The winking leprechaun that serves the team's logo symbolizes five decades of NBA tradition, althought the Celtics have had some tough years no other professional sports franchise can match the record of success.
